Westminster Performing Arts Series
This series began in 2019 and featured music from Cuban jazz to South African gospel, contemporary choral to bluegrass, and more. After a short hiatus because of Covid, the series will begin again Fall 2021.
Music is a vital and integral part of worship at Westminster. We sustain ourselves as individuals and as a congregation through rich worship experiences filled with diverse artistic expression, with our music reinforcing and heightening the meaning of Scripture and the spoken word.
We welcome participants of all ages and levels of experience to join our choirs, play the handbells, or serve as an instrumentalist in an ensemble. There is joy to be shared through music!
September—May
The Westminster Choir rehearses Wednesdays from 6:30–8:30 pm and sings every Sunday in the 10:30 worship. This choir sings the great sacred repertoire from all musical periods and enjoys the musical development, social outlet, and spiritual growth of their time together. Reading skills and previous musical experience are helpful. Contact Amanda Weber for more information.
September—May
The Handbell Choir provides Westminster members and friends with an opportunity to experience music through the playing of handbells and choir chimes. This ensemble rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 6-7pm in the Great Hall and plays occasionally in worship and for other special events. Previous bell choir experience is not required, though basic music-reading skills are necessary. For more information, contact Joseph Trucano.
The Westminster music program offers opportunities for children beginning age 3 through 12th grade. These musical ensembles run in tandem with education to nurture a lifelong desire to participate in worship and a faith community. Through the choir experience, children learn commitment, attachment, the content of the creeds and the fun of singing. The choirs give children a garden in which to grow and successfully express their praise. Being in choir pulls a young person into the immediacy of the worship situation and gives them an active role in that drama. Development of musical skills contributes to self-esteem and a fuller life experience. Read more about the music ensembles on the Families, Youth, and Children page, connect directly with Brad Ollmann, Director of Early & Middle Childhood Music.
