“No one but God alone knows how much I love and honor that church…I want to have some little part of the work of (Westminster) after I have gone.”
—Charles Thompson, Last Will & Testament, 1914
Many members and friends of Westminster Presbyterian Church make a lasting gift of gratitude through their estate. With the Legacy of Gratitude Program, we encourage members to respond to God’s grace with gratitude, help sustain the mission of Westminster, and create a legacy with a gift that reflects deeply held values. Westminster’s endowment is the result of a tradition of careful stewardship of generous legacy gifts over nearly 100 years. It plays a key role in supporting the church’s mission and activities. Westminster members and friends who have made plans for a legacy gift become members of the Legacy Circle.
A legacy gift most commonly takes the form of a simple bequest in a will that costs nothing during one’s lifetime but benefits Westminster at the death of the donor. It may also take the form of an annuity that pays life income, an insurance policy, trust, or a gift of stock or property. A legacy gift can be of any size, and often has significant tax benefits for the donor and heirs. It can be structured to benefit the donor or Westminster during the donor’s lifetime, or to benefit Westminster at the donor’s death.
Types of Legacy Gifts
- Bequest in your will
- Charitable Gift Annuity
- 401K Retirement Benefit Plans and IRAs
- Stocks, bonds, real estate, and property
To create your own legacy of gratitude:
Please contact Mary Hess, Director of Stewardship, 612.332.3421. She will assist you in talking through options. If your estate gift for Westminster is already in place, please inform Mary and return the Legacy Gift form, so that we may include you in the Legacy Circle and express gratitude for your impact on future generations.
The Legacy Circle is comprised of those who have remembered Westminster in their will, trust, or long-range estate plans. We recognize these generous individuals annually with a springtime luncheon to express gratitude for their foresight in helping sustain the mission of Westminster for future generations.
