And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
Westminster’s Social Justice Ministry Team encourages and equips members of Westminster and the larger community to work for justice. Across a broad spectrum of contemporary concerns, the team provides educational programming, supports the development of advocacy statements, and promotes action.
The team plans topics and arranges speakers for the Social Justice Forum, a weekly education series offered September through May. Forums are designed to prompt informed dialogue and congregational engagement around a wide range of public issues, inspired by God’s call to justice. Speakers from a variety of public, private, and nonprofit organizations – elected officials, documentary filmmakers, grassroots advocates, journalists, educators, and policy experts – share their experiences and perspectives working to help individuals and communities to thrive.
The team also helps to organize and facilitate small interest groups exploring new areas of possible expansion in Westminster’s justice and mission work, such as health care, immigration reform, and mass incarceration. In addition, the team coordinates Westminster member participation in activities hosted by several faith-based advocacy organizations, such as Minnesota’s Joint Religious Legislative Coalition (JRLC) and Align Minneapolis, an interfaith alliance of congregations working to end homelessness.
The Social Justice Ministry Team welcomes new members at any time! The team meets on the fourth Thursday of each month during the program year. You’re invited to email the ministry team chair to learn more, and to sign up for Faith in Action News to have upcoming event details delivered directly to your inbox.
The team invites your continuing prayers for all those working for peace, justice, and well-being, and for the individuals and communities they serve.
