“One of my guiding scriptures is Psalm 46. It says, ‘Be still and know that I am God,’ of course, but it also says that ‘God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved.’ I am fully convinced that the mission of the church requires full engagement with the world in which we live.”
Interim Associate Pastor of Families, Youth, and Children, Matthew Johnson provides organizational leadership for Westminster’s ministries of families and their children’s spiritual education, paying special attention to the church’s call to be a telling presence in a large, diverse downtown environment.
He earned his Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary and his bachelor degree in music from St. Olaf College. While in seminary, he served as interim pastor at Trinity Lutheran Congregation and Augsburg College, where he engaged in numerous social justice projects.
A former member of the Minnesota Opera chorus and Minnesota Chorale, he looks forward to being part of the music at Westminster, especially the new Justice Choir.
Matt is married to Regina, a teacher at Hopkins West Junior High.
