Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, ‘Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land.’ Deuteronomy 15:11
Westminster’s Community Partners Ministry Team works hand in hand with local organizations working to transform social systems, challenge inequalities, and practice love of neighbor for those who are poor, hungry, or homeless. The team builds relationships and provides resources that support a variety of non-profits across the metropolitan area.
The team reviews funding requests and allocates grant support to approximately 15 community partners each year. As part of the review process, team members make site visits to the applicants to learn more about their work and identify potential opportunities for service.
Key ministry areas and current partners include:
- Housing — Urban Homeworks, City House, Project for Pride in Living
- Criminal justice — Restorative Justice
- Immigration — African Immigrant Community Services
- Education, youth, and community development — YWCA of Minneapolis, Banyan Community, Greater Minneapolis Community Connections
The Community Partners Ministry Team welcomes new members at any time! The team meets quarterly, with additional meetings during the first quarter when funding decisions are being finalized. You are invited to email the ministry team chair to learn more and to sign up for Faith in Action News to have upcoming event details delivered directly to your inbox.
