“In Christian community we commit to small and large acts of helpfulness so that God’s church shares its significant gifts with the world. Actively seeking to help where we are needed, we will find ourselves fully sharing in God’s mission.”
Alanna Simone Tyler was called to serve as Associate Pastor for Justice and Mission at Westminster Presbyterian Church in August 2018. Prior to ordination and serving full-time in ministry, she had a career in local and state government and brings to ministry experiences building collaborative relationships and leading change. Her role at Westminster allows her to continue to explore the intersections of faith and public life.
She works collaboratively within the Westminster community and with faith-based organizations and secular institutions to usher in a more just and equitable society. “Westminster is called and equipped to accompany our neighbors—especially those who are overwhelmed by the systems and structures we move through with ease. It is my great joy to serve with this congregation in the heart of the city.”
She graduated from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa earning a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in political science, and Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, earning a Master of Divinity. Alanna is a daughter of the South Side of Chicago and has been indelibly shaped by a strong network comprised of the African American church, neighbors, schools and community organizations. Walking with friends, gardening, cooking, and making art are activities Alanna enjoys.
