Then my people will live in a peaceful dwelling, in secure homes, in carefree resting places. Isaiah 32:18
The Affordable Housing Ministry team coordinates work projects, social connections, in-kind contributions, and financial resources to support housing access in the greater metropolitan area. The team helps to coordinate the congregation’s direct investment in affordable homes, which to date has resulted in the development of more than 200 apartment units at various Twin Cities locations.
The team works with a variety of partner organizations to support:
- Emergency rental assistance – Align Minneapolis
- Shelter and transitional assistance to families and individuals in housing crisis or regaining stability – Families Moving Forward, Dignity Center
- Supportive housing for youth and for adults returning from incarceration – Nicollet Square, Great River Landing
- Annual “build weeks” – Habitat for Humanity, Hearts and Hammers
Westminster members engage in a wide range of activities, such as pounding nails in a home rehabilitation project, providing household goods for individuals and families moving into new homes, advocating before state and local elected officials, and enjoying social events with families or young adults in supportive housing.
The Affordable Housing Ministry Team welcomes new members at any time! The team meets on a flexible schedule. You’re invited to email the ministry team chair to learn more, and to sign up for Faith in Action News to have upcoming event details delivered directly to your inbox.
The team invites your continuing prayers for awareness, support and innovation in the quest to expand access to affordable housing, and for all those in need of stable housing.
