Pastor Transition

Westminster Presbyterian Church has been blessed with steadfast leadership with one senior pastor for nearly 25 years. In April 2023, the Rev. Dr. Tim Hart-Andersen announced his retirement in October 2023.

As early as Spring 2022 Westminster’s Session began preparing for Tim Hart-Andersen’s eventual retirement by creating a Succession Planning Team (SPT). Over many months, the SPT has examined various succession models; spoken with more than 18 pastors and churches who have recently engaged in the succession process; met with leaders of the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area; and, prayed for the Spirit to help the church discern an appropriate plan for transition.

During the Summer 2023, the Ministry and Mission Study Committee began meeting and dedicated August to listening to what people at Westminster say about our church and where they believe that we are being led as a congregation. In October 2023, their report was accepted by Westminster’s Session as well as the Presbytery of the Twin Cities Area. This work will help to guide the Pastor Nominating Committee’s work.

At the same time, the Celebrations Committee planned numerous events for October 2023 to celebrate Tim and Beth’s time at the church. Finally, the Personnel Committee for Staff and Ministers (PCSM) is in the process of calling a Transitional Senior Pastor (pdf) to assume leadership responsibilities for an interim time.

The Succession Planning Team invites the community to stay up to date on the process through regular updates in Westminster News and posted here.
