WPAS: Lunar New Year with Gao Hong and Friends

February 9 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The Westminster Performing Arts Series is excited to enter the Year of the Dragon with featured artist Gao Hong, an internationally touring performer, composer, and master of the pipa – an ancient Chinese pear-shaped lute. She has performed as a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, The China National Traditional Orchestra, Buenos Aires Philharmonic, Heidelberg Philharmonic, among others, and has collaborated in wonderful fusion events with jazz musicians, oudists, flamenco guitarists and others.
In 2022, Mayor Melvin Carter proclaimed April 3, 2022 to be “Gao Hong Day in the City of St. Paul”, and her important musical achievements and offerings were recognized by Senator Amy Klobuchar: “For over 50 years, Gao Hong’s music has inspired and moved countless numbers of people around the globe. As one of the premiere pipa players in the world, Gao Hong’s illustrative career is filled with accomplishments as a musician, composer, and educator.”
Gao Hong will be joined by the Chinese Music Ensemble from Carleton College, which she directs.
