Learning About Islam

Always wanted to learn more about Islam and Muslims? This series will introduce basic terminology and the beliefs, practices, and religious celebrations of Muslims. Additional sessions will explore the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity, including basic beliefs and practices in the context of both systems. We will discuss how Muslims view God, Mary, and Jesus, as well as verses from the Qur’an that are equivalent to the Ten Commandments. The focus is on the similarities of both faiths and opportunities in pursuing joint Muslim/Christian projects.

The series is lead by a speaker from the Islamic Resource Group of Minnesota, Memoona Ghani.

Ghani’s day job is a Business Analyst at the University of MN. But, most of her nights and weekends are dedicated to serving the community. She leads the IMPACT volunteer initiative for Qabeelat Madinatayn  (MN chapter of the Al-Maghrib Institute). IMPACT is a community based initiative intended for the student body to put knowledge into action by volunteering for different causes in the community such as for homeless shelters, food drives, food shelves, elderly service, and highway cleanup. She is also part of the Speakers Bureau for the Islamic Resource Group, which provides educations resources and tools IRG speaker to the community about Islam and Muslims. Her passion is breaking stereotypes and myths about Islam and Muslims through blogging. Her favorite topic to blog about is Muslim female leaders and their positive role in the community. She also serves on the board for RISE (Reviving Islamic Sisterhood for Empowerment).
