Dr. Carmel Tinnes Chosen for Director of Educational Ministries

Westminster is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Carmel Tinnes as the new Director of Educational Ministries.

Most recently Carmel served as Director of Religious Education at the Army Garrison at West Point, NY, where she developed and implemented creative and engaging education offerings for children pre-K through fifth grade and families, as well as expanded educational offerings for individuals from diverse faith groups.

She served as Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in Royal Oak, MI, from 2006-2014, Director of Education and Fellowship at Round Hill Community Church in Greenwich, CT, from 2000–2006, and Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church in Salina, KS, from 1993–98.

“Carmel is uniquely qualified for this new position, given her education, years of experience in similar roles, and the energy and creativity she will bring to our educational ministries,” said Rev. Meghan Gage-Finn. “She has shown a strong commitment to telling God’s story to all God’s people, children and adults, and will help us share the story with one another in new ways.”

Carmel earned her bachelor degree from Moorhead State University, her master of arts in communications from Eastern Michigan University, and her doctor of education from Union Presbyterian Seminary for Christian Education in Richmond, VA. She has served as a lecturer at the college and graduate school levels, an artist-in-residence, a drama specialist in the public schools, and a children’s conference coordinator.

Dr. Tinnes will start Sunday, March 5.
